Delta Magic: A foggy dawn, the sun caresses the steps of the wharf; the flight of a heron interrupts the humid air, while the drone of the boat warehouse announces the beginning of a new day. Briefly to capture the magic of the Delta in a few words is like trying to catch a part of the river with the hands: histories, personages, aromas and colors would slip us, to return to be fused in a same mass of water that advances slowly, but with the security from the powerful. The word Tigre comes from yaguareté or American tiger, old predator of the region always searching of red marshes deer’s. With the advance of the population, they were disappearing, not therefore the tenacity of those first settlers, who still in very adverse conditions continued with their projects. But it was with the arrival of the first European immigrants around 1890, that the islands area began to grow, in special by the introduction of the wicker by D. F. Sarmiento that soon along with the production of fruits would become the first source of income of the islanders. The persistence of these settlers turned its flooding ground into cultivable, overcoming the implacable swellings produced by the sudestada. Our Delta is one of the five more extensive of the world and the only one that are constituted by two great rivers like Parana and Uruguay, that end at a great fresh water estuary like the Río de la Plata. It has 750,000 hectares, furrowed by 207 rivers, streams and channels. It is divided in 9 sections that get up to San Nicolás city. The first section is dedicated to the tourism and recreation and in consequence the one that had a greater development during the last years. In the rest of the sections we found great poplars, willows and casuarinas forestations whose production is mainly destined to the manufacture of paper. Delta is a unique place in each season of the year, each change of light transforms and radiates a gripping magic. Here coexist islanders, who lived in that earth by generations, and tourists who visit these places and sail the rivers. Its landscape, lights and shades, produces a kind of spell to the new visitor who invites him to return once and again. An invitation always opened to the leisure, rest and the delight of the nature, near the big city. Our Delta speaks us with its own befall. It passes in front of us and it is the dumb movement of the water that calls us. And to be able to understand we only have to undress of our daily fastenings and appeal to the senses: the glance of thousand tones of green, the aroma of its loaded brought sediment waters goes somewhere form a distant land, the air flavor populated with infinite perfumes… to leave us to the senses: that is the Delta experience, that is the experience Los Zorzales Reserve. For that reason we invite you to share an immersed unique place at the heart of the first Section where you will be able to enjoy its countless enchantments and to be fused with the same foliage of the islands. The river itself is a poem “a secret of green islands that move away and lose in doubtful waters of a so slow river that it could be called immovable” (J.L. Borges). But although it seems immovable, this river and life goes on and it call to us to join us in its long walk. We wait for you! |
